My niece is going to her Senior Prom in May. She found the perfect dress at a bridal store. She got the dress name and product number off the tag. She then searched for it on-line. She was able to buy it directly from the manufacturer for $60 less!

Their dresses are mostly new, some used. They range in price from about $35-$50. The big names (Jessica McClintock and Alyce) are around $70-$90. It's worth a look :)

Best thing is: They can be returned (unlike ebay).

1. look for a consignment or "gently used" store in your area. They don't all have to be Goodwill. There are usually some that are more stylish. I've even seen some with designer labels.
2. Look for a gently worn dress that you can change a little to make it yours
3. ebay
4. craigslist

Go to a vintage store or the salvation army then take the dress to a tailor to have it cusom fitted. Also post on craigslist.org and ask for a used one. Get digital pics then buy it. Then take it to a tailor. Ask you friends sisters and friends of freinds.

Try Plato's Closet if there's one in your area. Otherwise, I'd recommend just starting early and looking at your local mall, I'm sure you'd be ble to find something within your price range since there're sales just about every weekend during this time of the year!!!

Ebay and vintage clothing stores will have a cool and unique selection at far better prices than new dresses. Keep in mind, though, that you might need to have things tailored to fit you.

Consider renting one or buying used from eBay. I have also heard that DEB and Fashion Bug are fairly cheap if you are looking for new. When you are done with it, sell it to someone else who can use it and then you can get some or all of your money back.

Find someone who already just bought a really nice dress that you like, about your size. Wait until just before prom and then get her date to dump her for the prom.

Then offer to buy the dress she has no use for!!!
