Only you know what is normal for you. Your pain and discomfort tolerance is not the same as everyone elses, it could be less it could be more. I would call your doctor, chances are they will want you to get checked or you could just go to ER.
My opinion, better safe than sorry, especially with such precious cargo.

You need to wait until your contractions are regular and at most 5 minutes apart. You could be having pain because your baby is taking up alot of space and pushing up against your organs and creating back pain. It's not unusual to hurt like that when you are due but you are not going to get anywhere with the hospital staff unless your water breaks or you are having true contractions of labor. Take it from someone with five kids. Three of my kids were late, one was on time and one was 2 weeks early. Doctors will allow you to go as much as 42 weeks pregnant before inducing your labor even if you are in pain.

Good luck!

Call your doctor right away! Back pain can be a sign of labor, it's called back contractions. Don't wait until contractions are a couple of minutes apart, when I had my first sign, I was like you, at term and something just didn't feel right. There were no real signs, something just didn't feel right. I called my doctor and she told me to go in, the ended up having to induce me because I was having complications and the baby's heart rate was dropping. Everything turned out fine, I had a healthy baby boy, but that is because I was cautious. Don't be embarrassed if they send you home and everything is fine, this is your child and it is better to be safe than sorry!

Before going to the ER I would call where ever you plan on having your baby. They have the best advice, they might have you go in there and do some tests. Back pain is normal in the third trimester and you are 40 weeks so you have had a lot of stress on your body for a long while. I wouldn't worry about it too much but call labor and delivery.

I probably would not go to the emergency room. I would however call the doctor. In all honesty, you're supposed to be uncomfortable at 40 weeks, and I doubt there is anything they can do, but the ER is an even more uncomfortable place to be! Stay at home and rest.

You really shouldn't take any chances with your pregnancy, I don't really think that they would think much of the back pain, because that is just to be expected, but the not being able to breath would worry me, Go get checked out!

No, I wouldnt.
I would however start laying on my leftside and shifting around for comfort. Maybe start walking, so get labor moving.

I personally would take castor oil.. about 2 Tbs, and labor usually starts about 6-8 hours later.

if you are not having contractions, they may send you back home until you are in active labor. BUT, if you do feel something is not right, you should go. Best of luck!!

If I couldn't breathe of course I would. Dont take any chances if you feel you must go then go you dont want to regret it later! It's for the safety of you and your little one.

Call your doctor. That's why you pay him. He will answer this question for you. You are due to have your baby at any time and he needs to be clued in on your pain, where it's at, and at what pain level. CALL YOUR DOCTOR!!!!
