It's a clandestine agreement the fish and the producers make before taping --- in return for not keeping the fish and frying them for dinner, the fish promise to bite so it's not a whole hour of fisherman cursing and crying and trying to fill out the show with idle banter.

I'm a big fan of "catch and release." myself. I LOVE to fish yet, I can't bring myself to eat the ones I catch. It's like we formed a relationship or something LMAO. But the fish I don't know personally are dinner!

I've noticed that too... Growing up, all my father watched on the weekend was fishing shows!! Blah.

But, I think they just fish for the fun of it, and to see what kinds of fish they can catch.

I wonder if because it's on television, they are not allowed to? I dont know, but I do notice that as well. I've heard them say that if more ppl throw them back, then other ppl have a chance of catching some too(rolling my eye's),not to be stingy and keep them all.

one fish to the other: " yea, so there i was just swimming along, and some sort of invisible force pulled me right out of the water, and put me on some strange craft, like maybe something from outer space. they did a couple of measurements, and flashed this really bright object at me while they held me. then, just when i thought i'd die, they let me go!"
fish #2: "yea, ummm, ok!?"

they sort of have to. catching and killing a fish just for the sake of catching and killing a fish is cruel and unusual.
