Hello,

I am a programmer both on VB.Net and Java. With regards to your question whether which one is hard (or harder) to learn - I believe depends on the context. It also is dependent on the learning capability of the individual. Which means that if you have a high APTITUDE (and IQ) for following deep logic (or perhaps a genius) then both languages are NEVER hard to learn.

Both languages have different purposes and if you use/apply it accordingly - you'd reap full benefits.

Visual Basic's paradigm is Event-Driven and is the most widely used business programming language - especially with the rise of Visual Basic.NET. If you are to develop in-house application programs with heavy use of Graphics (GUI's) and Web Interfacing - then VB is very strong on this. It is limited only in the sense that the Operating System must be Microsoft Windows.

Java on the other hand is an Object-Oriented programming (OOP) language. It's syntax is greatly influenced by C and C++, but comparatively has simpler object model and fewer low-level facilities. Java is cross-platform - meaning it does not depend on any Operating System... much like C, C++. But - C# has over-taken Java's popularity in the .NET world mainly because C# is equally (very) powerful and quick to implement. Java requires multi-levels of logic - being an OOP language.

Therefore for the "common" mind, I'd vote for Java as harder to learn compared to Visual Basic.

Cheers to the programmer!

which one is harder is in the eye of the beholder, but i'd argue there's no point in learning VB unless you're forced to for work.

VB is pretty much a legacy language just kept around for old-school people that never learned better languages like C++ or Java.

So just learn Java, and don't worry about VB. Java's not hard to learn, you can get the basics in a few days.. Or check out C#, very similar to Java. You'll go a lot farther in the industry with C++/C#/Java than you ever would with VB.

The syntaxes of both languages aren't so hard. Visual Basic has some aspects of object oriented programming (OOP) but to fully immerse yourself in OOP you will want to use Java.

It differs from procedural languages considerably but it's good to know. Visual Basic is useful for Windows environment because it is heavily tied to the operating system but if you want cross-platform capabilities you will want to know Java. For the most part Java's syntax is very similar to C or C++ or C#.

Procedural languages like Visual Basic typically involved creating steps on how to accomplish a certain task.

Object oriented languages like Java is concerned with describing self contained (encapsulation) objects and interaction between objects.

I think you will find Java is more difficult to grasp because there is no graphic user interface (gui) Visual basic 6 is quite easy to get the hang of but visual basic.net is quite large with lots of new features and different methods and variable declaration.

I belive that both languages have your differences. But I think that Java is more easy to learn on the beggining. It s more easy to lear about the structs of it.

In Visual Basis is more hard this things
