Since her creation she wasn't able to, and then all of a sudden DC decides that she can fly, and they don't even give a reasonable explanation for the change.

From your tone, I suspect that you don't like it. I'm with you. I think it's a lame attempt to make Wonderwoman the female version of Superman. And it's supposed to validate DC's claim of calling Superman, Batman, and Wonderwoman "the big three" a term that also annoys me to no end. Wonderwoman is an interesting character, but she's not nearly as iconic or important as Supes and Batman. In fact, making her the female Superman makes her less interesting (Superman is uninteresting enough for one character!) because it takes distracts readers from the Greek/Amazonian angle that makes her unique.

The one good thing I can think of is that it gets rid of the need for the invisible jet, which always struck me as absurd and which also has nothing to do with an Amazonian heritage.

I think that it was a good idea to make her sort of a female Superman.

By making her almost invulnerable, super strong and able to fly, the character stopped being the same outdated character she had become. She still has her Amazonian background, her weapons and whatever (remember that there WERE Greek demi-gods who were invulnerable, could fly and/or were super strong, and isn't she supposed to be a clay statue that was given the breath of life?).

It simply didn't work anymore for her to stand in the back deflecting bullets with her bracelets and forcing evil-doers to tell the truth by lassoeing them. Isn't she an Amazon, that is to say, a warrior? And how could she hold her own against the heavy-hitters in the DC universe without those powers? Batman can, because he's the freakin' Batman, with all that implies.

As a footnote, if you watch the recent Justice League cartoon, even if Wonder Woman is sort of a female Superman, you can see how her personality and fighting style are completely different. She wields weapons, even guns, she fights dirty, loses her temper, is formally trained in hand-to-hand combat, isn't averse to killing a foe, and so on. Hell, in every scene featuring an all-out battle you can see that, whereas Superman just flies around picking enemies off at his leisure with one of his unstoppable punches or heat vision or whatever, Wonder Woman always gets into the thick of it and racks up a bigger body count than anyone else.

And on a less relevant note, she's way hot.

As for the lesbian thing...isn't she a Classic Greek from an island whose population consists solely of women? I find it very hard to believe that everyone is cellibate and chaste in Themyschyra. I always thought she was bisexual.

I'm not wild about it but I agree that the invisible jet was always kind of stupid too, and they need some way to get her from place to place easily, plot-wise.

I don't like sudden unexplained changes in canonical stuff (like a character flying). But I disagree that it's so horrible that DC is positioning Wonder Woman out front as one of the "Big 3"--it's very cool that a solo female hero is considered that marketable. And Wonder Woman has had some great runs. I especially liked the George Perez re-boot from the late 80s/early 90s. I imagine this is also getting ready for the upcoming Joss Whedon movie project...

As for making her a lesbian, there's much more subtext for that all along than her flying!

Same thing happened to Superman, he was able to "Leap Tall Buildings" but no flying - now he's giving piggy backs to boeings…

I think it's pretty sad - it's just an invitation to aid lazy writing, before you know it her super powers will also enable her to grow male genitalia and a beard, as a disguise at first, but something will get 'stuck' and she'll have to change her title to "Wonder Genetically Differentiated and Social Boundary Confused Person".

The invisible jet became too difficult to park and find and jet fuel became too expensive. I know, I've wondered how a girl with a golden lasso keeps getting tangled up in so many things. She might as well sprout wings and fly, because everything has become impossible without faith in the things we can do in the first place.

I think it's pretty retarded actually!
I mean all this time has passed and she hasn't been able to fly and now they want her to?
And they don't even explain how she came to be flying she should have already found all her super powers!!

I think it's one of the worst decisions they ever made. Like nobody will notice, it's ok
