i am currently 40 weeks pregnant. two weeks ago, i was walking down the stairs, missed the last one & twisted my ankle so bad. i heard it crack like ten times. for a couple of days i was limping on it. it hurt like hell to walk. when i went to the doctors i was told it was just sprained really bad & the only thing i can do is put ice on it.

it turned black & blue. all over the place. on the top of my foot, on the sides. & it has been swollen ever since. it is now two weeks later, last night, my ankle & foot were swollen so bad, i couldn't even bend my ankle or toes. it was huge.

what is wrong with me, shouldn't it be healed by now??

Hi dear,

Congratulations for your pregnacy!!!, I think you should go to another doctor and get that ankle checked again, even xrayed (there are techniques to xray pregnant persons, so don't worry!) It may be more than sprained, and even if it is only a very bad sprain u should get crutches or a cast for a while to be able to get arround. Bad healed sprains can be a pain latter and become a chronical problem so get checked soon!!!!

fell free to write me if you want, I guess you are at home with the le up and very bored... im at home not pregnant but with a broken and casted leg :(

get well soon!!!!

Poor you. I can see myself in you in view that i'm a chocaholic, and likewise undergo from a swollen ankle. The warmness does not support both. You most effective point out one ankle, so is that this an ankle that you will have injured ago? In my case i had a Potts fracture of the left ankle over two decades in the past and it has in no way lower back to ordinary. Anyway, ingesting plenty of fluid, in particular water may be very well for you and if you'll be able to drop a few weight it is going to without doubt support too. The anti-histamine must support the rash, however you'll be able to alleviate the swelling of the ankle via now not dressed in tight becoming socks. Try the non-elastic kind similar to those worn via thrombosis sufferers. Also attempt to hinder status for lengthy durations. It is bigger to stroll. And while you sit down, attempt to leisure your legs on some thing. Other than this, i am afraid that there's now not a lot else that you'll be able to do. If you're from the UK then benefit from the beautiful climate at the same time it lasts. At least you recognize that it is not going to final lengthy. I come from a sizzling nation and that i might like to have a few normal British climate!

Congratulations on your pregnancy! Wow that's a painful injury. I recently sprained mine too. I'm a trainer so my advice would be to get an ankle brace such as an aircast which is available at sporting goods stores. And I would wrap it and ice it 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off. You should NOT be walking on it....you need to get crutches. It sounds like a grade 2 sprain and you shouldn't be on it. Have you sprained that ankle before? Can you walk on it today without limping on it? I have some exercises you can do for it also that can help with the flexability in it. Just e-mail me at IBJEFFSI@yahoo.com Take care Jeff

I badly sprained my ankle about 3 weeks ago. I was in a hurry going down the stairs, lost my balance and landed on a bad side of my left foot, causing my left ankle to be stretched going on the inside. The first 48 hours were excruciating and the pain was un-believable. I've never had a serious ankle injury before.

So I immediately treated it using the RICE method. The following day, the bruising and swelling were so horrible. I found out that I got a second degree sprain and immediately panicked after that. I had a football game on that week and it been looking forward to it because I've been training for rt. I had teammates that had similar injuries and it took them months to fully recover, some of them stopped playing altogether. So I kinda had a short-term depression because I can't imagine myself not being able to run and play sports anymore.

Because I was so desperate to recover again, I contacted a lot of people that I know who do sports and asked them if they had similar injuries. One friend of mine, from the boy's football team in my university, told me about H.E.M. Ankle Rehab. I got a copy 4 days after I got injured. I immediately read and followed what was instructed and felt improvement on the first day. I was able to walk a bit, but I was in pain.

A couple of days after that, the swelling and bruising were subsid-ing significantly and on the fourth day, I was walking comfortably again. Although I've had felt a bit of stiffness, I continued doing what was instructed. My sister was surprised that I have recovered this fast. I told her about this book and was shocked on how effective the procedures were. I'm just so happy that this book was shared to me and how effective it is.

Heal your ankle fully & fast?

Unfornately a bad sprain can actually take longer to heal than a break. These type of soft tissue injuries can take months and months to heal. Also being pregnant causes ankle swelling. Still rest it and elevate it and use ice when possible.

Get urself a second opinion, get urself some crutvches but most of all get urself some r.i.c.e. Sprains are alot worse than breaks, altho often when u break a bone it sprains the ligaments too. i am currently laid up with my leg in a cast upto my knee after spraining my ankle.
