Did it bum anybody else out last night when the little girl in the audience on American Idol was bawling when Sanjaya was performing? I found it very depressing/disconcerting. It still kind of turns my stomach thinking about it. Staged or not, that was crazy.
Who are your favorites right now?
Blake is at the top of my list. He got several votes from me last night. He might not be the best singer but he's an entertaining performer and he's adorable. The judges keep saying that it's a "singing competition" but it's not JUST about singing, if you ask me. It's also about image. There have been previous AI winners who hardly sold any records. I feel like this needs to be taken into consideration too.
Everybody pretty much agrees that Melinda and Lakisha are great singers, but I just don't know if I'd buy one of their records. Melinda, in particular, was awesome last night, but I just don't know...
I'm also loving Jordin, Gina and Haley (she keeps getting better!).
Thoughts?

j_mo83, I agree with you. Melinda's whole "gee whiz" thing is getting kind of annoying. I don't know if any of you watch "The Soup" on E! but they were making fun of her last week and saying something to the effect "How many times can you act surprised about receiving great feedback?" Well, they put it better than that but you get the point.
And thanks to all so far for giving REAL answers (and not the standard one-sentence response!). Y'all rock!

lol...that comment about Phil looking like an avatar made me laugh. He DOES seem like a nice guy but his performance last night was embarrassing.
Yeah, Stephanie definitely wasn't "in" her performance. I agreed with the judges when they said she's "losing her edge."

Your right I would much rather watch The last 3 girls you mentioned than the so called top 2. Jordin @ 17 is amazing and could be around for years and still be very young compared to other singers. Gina is trying to win a pop contest with rock music. Maybe she should have been on CBS Rock Star show. Haley might not win but sings well and looks great. Kelly Pickler has a career and what number did she make it to. I think we have at least 2 more weeks of boys getting kicked off before any of the girls should go.

More and more I'm beginning to not like Melinda... can't really figure out why though. I agree she has a fantastic voice. But this whole "I never knew I was THAT good" act she's putting on is starting to annoy me. And I think they hinted at that last night when they asked if that's the real her. At first I think it was genuine shock. Now I think she's keeping it up to keep that innocence/humble appearence. I'm starting to not buy it anymore.
Lakisha is really good... and I love her voice. And I think she should be there for awhile. But in the end she should make a gospel-like CD because that's where her comfort zone appears to be. And while gospel is great... it's not really top 40 material.
Jordin is fantastic... she's my vote for winner! She's young, but has great control of her voice and range, plus she's got a great spunky/young attitude. And just enough humbleness to be believeable.
Blake is pretty cool. I think he brings a new vibe to the Idol scene. He definately has musical talent that will take him far.
Chris S is great too. And I learned this morning from another question that he already has a hometown band and CD out. So... while he's a great musician and good singer... if he doesn't make it all the way he'll definately still go big with his hometown band.
That's my pick for top 5: Melinda, Lakisha, Jordin, Blake and Chris S.
I so badly want Sanjaya to go home. If nothing else, to save his dignity. I think last night was a desperate plea to let him leave. He said in his clip "I know I'm not the best singer" He knows he's the outcast amoung a group of wonderful musicians and is only there for the sympathy (votefortheworst) and teeny bopper ("crying girl") vote. I know he won't be going home tonight... but hopefully it'll be soon!

I still can't figure out what the deal with the bawling little girl was?! I absolutely Love Blake! He's very creative, but Melinda is actually my favorite. She keeps picking the right songs and gets better. She's not the type of music I would listen to, but completely fab all the same. Blake-well I'd buy his cd in a heartbeat-he's already my friend on Myspace. His version of Virtual Insanity was awesome.
This season though, I don't know, they need to do something about the song selections. I feel like I'm going to fall asleep most of the time!

The little girl was probably just so excited to be there. Maybe it was her very first "concert".
I have decided to vote for the person whose CD I think I will want to buy. I have been voting for Melinda, Lakisha, Jordin, and Chris Sligh, but I will not want to buy a hip hop, rap, or gospel CD. So I might vote for Chris Sligh and Jordin Sparks. I do love Melinda, and I believe she's very real. I know people like that. They are so nice, they can't believe all this good stuff is really happening to them. So yes, I'm sure she's real.
I want a five-way tie. Though I don't usually like the kind of stuff Blake does, I loved the way he did "Time of the Seasons" by the Zombies, and it's one of my favorite songs of all time, mostly because of the music part, but I loved the way the Zombies did it. Also, Chris Sligh did my other fav. Zombie song, "She's Not There". I also loved the way Chris R. did his song, but he's not one of my favs. every week.
You know, it's much easier for me to say who I want to leave each week. The good ones are just too good, and it's hard to choose.
Though Sanjaya is far from the best, I like the kinds of songs he does. I like slow, relaxing music. Rock has its place, like when I'm in the car on the highway on a trip, but at home I mostly like music to relax me.
So, I'd like to see Phil go. Is that his name? The bald guy. I don't usually make fun of the way people look, but he looks like an avatar to me. Sorry, but he does! I like him, though. He seems like a very nice guy. I hate to see any of them go this year. They're all good in different ways.
But I'd have to say I want Phil to leave this week. Sanjaya soon, and not because I don't like him, but because I have to admit the quality of his singing isn't up to par with the rest. I would buy his CD, though..
Stephanie Edwards didn't do her best this week. Seemed to me that her mind was wandering way off in the distance while she was singing, until the last few notes. It's like she though, "Oops, the end. I'd better finish this up right!" Did anyone else notice that? Or is it just me? I know she can do better than that.
I think Gina is good, too, but I probably wouldn't buy her music, so I'd want her off after Phil, just before Sanjaya. After that, maybe Blake, because I wouldn't buy his music either, unless he puts out "Time of the Season" as a single.
I think I love all the rest of them, unless I'm forgetting someone. I didn't mention Haley. She's pretty good, too. I'll have to pay attention next week. I missed her as she was first, and I didn't get to the TV on time, and for some reason, my machine decided not to save it last night.

I agree Melinda & Lakisha are great, but not much of an idol? I think Chris has a great voice and all the other attributes that will make an idol, so I am rooting for him.

Yes, the girl crying was so silly. She cried for all of the performances - not just Sanjaya. I would be so humiliated to have that be highlighted on national television.
I think Chris S. is cool - my fave so far.
