I was cleaning up my kitchen a couple of nights ago and the TV was on. The Daily Show comes on and, of course, Jon Stewart starts to slam Bush. Then as I listen carefully, I realize the audience is a laugh track.

Not only does Stewart lack news credibility, but a laugh track? Doesn't this just prove he sucks as a comedian, too?

Catherine, maybe it used to be flimed in front of an audience. I've been around long enough to know what canned laughter sounds like. I take umbrage to being called a liar.

Actaully, I turned the TV off after a couple of minutes. He's not funny.

Every comedy enhances the laughter (when there's an audience) with canned laughter -- where have you been for the last half-century?

Lacks news credibility?

He's the first to admit it; it's a FAKE NEWS Show, on Comedy Central.

It's original mission statement was to make fun of the appalling quality of "news" shows, but, after Bush's ascension, he takes as many cracks at the administration as at the coverage of news.

The use of a laugh track doesn't mean there isn't also an audience -- I'm pretty sure there is -- you hear other kinds of sounds from them, and he often reacts to their reactions.

All comedy shows do this, beef up the laughing you hear with laugh tracks.

Not only is he funny, but I find much of his (well, there are a lot of writers, so all of them, really) analysis to be spot on.

If you're a fan of Bush, I can understand why you wouldn't like him. Although he takes pot-shots at every absurdity, from all sides, he does especially go after Bush & Company -- but then, what sane person wouldn't?

But it has never pretended to be a real news show -- well, it pretends, but they don't mean people to take it seriously.

It's on Comedy Central, and Stewart makes fun of himself, too -- always quick to point out that what he does is "fake news" -- anyone who thinks he's trying to seriously cover the news hasn't listened carefully.

Not to mention, is humor-deprived.

Don't be to hard on John Stewart. He cut up Clinton pretty bad and he will cut up the next president in the same manner.

He is a political comedian and the president is the easiest target regardless of their party. I don't remember Johnny Carson cutting any of them any slack in his monologues.

As far as the canned laughter, it wouldn't surprise me. I think all shows use it, if they have a live audience or not.

I don't have cable But I saw Stewart on the Tonight Show once.

He said "why do republicans take me serious I come on right after Sponge Bob and before Simpson reruns."

It's filmed in front of a live audience. I've been there. It's not a laugh track. Conservatives will do anything to discredit those who disagree with them. Why not just go fire some more U.S. Attorneys.

The Daily Show is filmed in New York in front of a live audience.

This just proves you are tone deaf.

At least your are listening, and carefully, and be honest-- didn't you chuckle at times to yourself? Yes Jon is brilliant. Don't forget to listen, carefully, to The Colbert Nation either.

I surprised that you can't tell the difference from a studio audience and a laugh track.

Hey, personally I like the show.
If you don't, change the channel.
No need to sit through a few episodes and analyze it then waste time here writing a question like this.
