An elderly couple from Arizona found a cure for dementia, Anti-road toll protester got 1.8 million signatures to his Downing St petition, Bands now get to no.1 without a record deal - these are the obvious examples. Any more either obscure or obvious ?

I am always amazed at Rosa Parks, who, through social networking, made a giant change in bus laws. She simply would not give up her seat, the day she had worked so hard, cleaning the white family's home, that she would NOT give up her seat on the bus, on her way home. The other house cleaners socially networked, by not taking the bus until the laws had changed. The LAW had been that the black people had to sit in the back of the bus...........that a white person had the right to take THAT seat, if there were not enough seats at the front of the bus. The law stated that any black person (man, woman, child) HAD to give that seat to any white person. There were NO accepted REASONS NOT to give up that seat! (So, if grandma (black) was sick and weak, she would need to GIVE HER SEAT to any white person who needed a seat..........and grandma would HAVE to stand!).
It was so brave of her, and SO brave of all the black people to back her up, and to cause a REAL social revolution that brought about a lot more fairness in this world. Rosa Parks died in the last year or so. I'm white, and I think she will always be one of my favorite people. She didn't use violence, she used a passive way to get her 'needs' across........as did all those who backed her up! She got the law changed, without any violence. I love that.

What about issues such as gentrification? The Dudley Street Initiative...The film laid to waste about Chester, PA with Westinghouse relaiming centers...I think it is also important for you to focus on the learned helplessness many citizens feel and the continuation of "This is the way things are done. We have done it this way for many years so this is how we do it." This ties in with the red tape experienced when trying to accomplish things. Store wars is another film that deals with Wal-Mart wanting to enter Ashland, VA and the communities resistance. Good luck in your continued search for information.
