A co-worker is a hardcore is vegitarian- she thinks eating other lifeforms is immoral (yet she has no problems eating vegtables, which are also lifeforms). She proudly boasts she never has and never will give meat products to her dog and cat- as there are veggie substitutes...What do you think of this? I think its animal abuse- cats and dogs are carnivores, and to eliminate meat from theri diets is arrogant presumption, and mistreating ones pets. What do you think?

In case you didn't know, dogs are omnivores, not carnivores. The oldest dog in the world was a vegan dog(29 year old boarder collie in Australia).Cats are carnivores, but they need taurine and vitamin a retinol from animal products, but they synthesize these vitamins and their food comes supplemented with everything they need.Even a lion survived on a vegetarian diet, although people thought she would die with out meat.Seriously, what brand of dog food do you buy your dogs,I know people who will buy the cheapest food they can find, they don't care about quality. Also, they put meat from animals that aren't approved for human consumption straight into pet foods.Dogs and cats can get mad cow disease. They put the lowest quality meats they can find into pet foods. If you look on the back of dog food the labels usually say "Protein source from Chicken" or whatever animal, that opens a huge window,it could be brains, ateries, whatever that's leftover.Choosing a vegetarian diet for your pet can help protect your pet from ilnesses and contamination.

I think that isn't healthy for the dogs and cats. They are carnivores, they need to eat meat. In the wild, they eat meat. They need nutrients that they get from meat.

I think the best diet for a domestic pet is the dry food. It is made to have the proper nutrition for the pet. I don't think it is a problem if on top of that diet, she gives them an occaisional treat that she makes with vegan ingredients, but a vegan diet for a dog or cat is ridiculous! Get a hamster or guinea pig if you want a vegetarian pet! Don't go against nature.

Cats and dogs are carnivores and need the nutrition found in meat. I really doubt that vegan products can give them this nutrition...they may contain protein, vitamins, etc. but those may not be in a form that is digestable or usable by a dog or cat. Classic case of an animal-rights person taking the rights/ethics way too far and attempting to assign human qualities (such as morals and digestive systems) to other animals. If she can't accept the food chain in nature, then she has no place caring for anything but a (natural) herbivore!

I think it's pretty stupid...My sister is a pure vegan and her boyfriend is a vegetarian, but they feed their dogs and cats meat products. I asked her as a joke once if she was going to raise her dogs to be vegans too. She said that for the dogs, she would give them vegan dog treats and such for fun but she'd feed them meat because it's different for dogs and other animals. They ARE carnivores, and not many have moral issues with eating other animals..lol..

I think she's stupid... Cats & Dogs are CARNIVORES!!!

feeding them a veggie based diet can't possibly fulfill their nutrition requirements. I agree with you, I think it's animal abuse. Tell her to get a clue, & get off of her self-righteous kick.
