you have to define soul. What i mean is do you mean the soul as in the Biblical soul? If so that term is generally misunderstood even by most Bible scholars. In genesis God made man a living soul. It did not say He gave man A living soul but that man was a living soul. Thus the old saying about a sunken ship " she went down with 1500 souls on board" . By that definition id say all higher animals and humans are living souls. They feel pain, have emotions and think to some extent( even some humans think) . Now if by soul you mean the eternal spirit , that could be a different answer. I can not give you a definitive Biblical answer. However, I do not believe that God would leave my best friend out of heaven , so if dog is mans best friend id say that there are probably spirit beings that happen to be canine. No one knows for certain about that tho. Rest assured that if they do not have an eternal spirit, and will not be in heaven, it will not make those people who make it to heaven sad. God said no sadness in heaven. If you were not referring to Biblical answers to that question then my answer is irrelevant.

There have been attempts at scientifically proving that we have a soul through the theory that the soul actually has a weight, that when we die, our bodies are lighter than when they are alive. This is true for animals, too. There are probably several other scientific explanations for this phenomenon, this change of weight, but I read about it somewhere and found it very interesting.
Regardless of whether there is scientific proof or not, I think animals do have souls. To me, capacity to love = soul. An animal's capacity to love goes far beyond people's; their love is unconditional. To me, the capacity to love is the greatest proof that animals have souls.

In my opinion, animals have souls. Even if you look at the spiritual literature of most major religions, they speak of animals being present in heaven. How could they be in heaven if they did not have a soul?

I've seen pets express love, and seen them mourn at loss. They express anger, sadness, and excitement. They think, they solve problems, and they take care of their families (both their own and adopted humans). If such things are not indicative of a soul then we are all soul-less.

Thats a really good question, but i really do think so. through my teens and 20's I had a wonderful siamese tom cat and was just devestated when he passed away. He brought alot of pleasure to our family and had a real character to him. Without a doubt he had a soul

It relies upon on the way you outline "soul". If the souls is only the "existence idea" and absence of life potential separation of soul and body, then animals could be stated to have a "soul". So could flowers for that count number number. yet what we do understand is that animals do no longer have an immortal soul. at the same time as they die they only end to exist.

All living creatures have a soul. I don't say this from a religious belief either. I say this because of my own beliefs.
