dont listen to idiots on here, its not selfish, HE's the one whos selfish.. for walking away. your child has needs, and teens cost a whole lot more then babys do, thats for sure.
out of wedlock doesnt matter, if the child is his, its his responsibility.
GONE are the days of hiding til the child is 18, for today, arrears are forever. but you have not filed for it yet, so i dont know how far back your state will go for it....
he can try and dispute it all he wants, todays courts ORDER dna testing to be done. once he is proven the father, incomes are calculated and a child support amount ordered.
here is a child support calculator; just click on your state and fill it in. that'll give a general idea what will be paid.

Why are you filing for child support now? Depends on what state you live in. Some states won't let you get child support from that far back. If you seek child support, the court will order a paternity test even if he listed as the father on the birth certificate. No, he can't take you son away unless for some reason you are found mentally, physically or emotionall unstable to take care of or provide for your son. He will dispute is but the court will order a paternity test regardless.

He can dispute it although with DNA fingerprinting a blood test will tell with 99.9995% certainty who the father is. If your son is 15 and wishes to stay with you he will not be able to take him away because the court will let the child, at that age, make the decision.
You will be entitled to child support, however depending upon the State and the judge you may not be able to collect back child support. You will probably be asked why you didn't file for child support 15 years ago.

Answers: 1. You can file. Depending on the judge and state you live in and circumstances, you either may or may not get back child support but he will have to start paying and continue to pay for as long as the child remains in school 2. Yes he can dispute paternity. This will simply delay the process about 30 days. 3. If he is the father, he can at any time petition the court to give custody to him. Getting it is a whole other story and that depends on allot of information you did not supply.
Good luck.

He cant take your son away from you but he can start getting visitation. I am going through that right now with my 7 year old son.You can however go ahead and file for childsupport but it really depends on what state you are in and what kind of judge you get to whether or not you will get back childsupport. If he was never ordered to pay child support before now he may only be responsible for paying now. That all depends on your states laws and what the situation is when you go to court.

I have a 10 year old out of wedlock. I get child support for him when ever his biological father wants to pay it. But he could try. But seeing as how you have been the custodial parent for 15 years, it isn't very likely it could happen. You need to call or go to the court house and get the number and address for your local "Office of Recovery Services." If you can get as much information about the father for them as possible...they should be able to get child support for you. And of course, you can go to court and sue for back child support as well as getting the current child support. They can go back to birth, and even add interest to what is owed to you by the biological father. He may however ask for a paternity test. If he requests one, he has to pay for it. Not you. The money will have to come out of his pocket. I hope this helped. =)
I have to add one more thing. You are "NOT" selfish for wanting child support now. It is not only the mother's job to support her child. The man helped get you pregnant. You didn't climb on top of yourself to get yourself pregnant. The man has a financial responsibility to his child. Just like the mother. A mother has to look out for the best welfare of her child.

I highly doubt that he can take your son away from you, but YES, you can recieve back support as long as he has KNOWN about this child. Being in or out of wedlock has NOTHING to do with child support. Good luck

Why would you want to do it 15 years later? How ridiculous! It's people like you that ruin the system and ruin it for others that take it seriously. Are you just out to get this guy now or really hard up for money? And if you were to get back support, would ALL of the money go to your 15 year old or do you need it. How selfish.

He may try to do all of the above including asking for a DNA test. Bigger question that I will ask because I am sure a judge will ask the same is why did it take you 15 years to file for child support.
I think that there should be a law that if you waited that long you shouldn't be entitled to anything

You can file for childsupport, not sure about back childsupport.
He can dispute it, if he has never been involved, he never signed the birth certificate.
Highly unlikely that he could gain custody, unless the father has been involved.
Why did you wait so long to go after childsupport??????
If the father has not been involved, wouldn't it be better to terminate his parental rights?
