I don't know if the Mirena IUD is the same as the IUD that doesn't release hormones, but I have the IUD with no hormones and my chin has been breaking out since inserting it five months ago. Will these breakouts go away while I have the IUD?? I'm almost 40 and am sick of having zits!

I have the mirena and have never had problems with zits at all. But I also never had them (apart from the odd one) as a teenager.

If you have one that doesn't release hormones then it really shouldn't be affecting your skin directly.

Indirectly it may be that your own hormones are adapting to having the iud fitted, and this is causing the spots. I would have thought it would settle down soon enough (another month or so), but if not perhaps speak to your doctor about changing the iud for a different one?

I have the Mirena (hormone IUD) and have not had problems with it. I don't know about the copper IUD........but with Mirena it says the side effects only last for 3-6 months.

Good luck!
