I don't know why people would tell you that. It's perfectly alright. As you can see for yourself that combo works just fine. Bettas are very peaceful and usually don;t bother other fish at all except other bettas. Gourami can be a bit nasty at times, but dwarf gourami tend to be rather mild mannered. I have never heard of neons being a problem to any other fish. Don't worry about it, sit back and enjoy your fish!

I concur...

In general it is a racism among your fish that causes these sorts of problems. For bettas they are easily triggered into a violent rage by any fish with any form of vibrant fins. This goes up and beyond from do not mix this cichlid with a cichlid of this colouration or they'll fight etc....

Now also we have to appreciate that this IS nothing different than contemporary racism among our society. What am I about on that? Not everybody is racist, not every fish will be intolerant to anothers behavior, even if the books say its supposed to.

The main concern that ever comes up with me when I hear about people keeping oddly set fish together is the chemistry over the beahavior. If the fish as mentioned above by another poster are getting along, and they are not fighting... then who is to say there is any problem at all? I dont see one... do you?

Or is it more that other fish keepers, or people who discourage keeping these fish together are simply jealous that they cannot accomplish such an interesting setup...

I keep cichlids, i love them. Often I've been scolded asto my setups.. but often enough I've heard wows about howd' you get them to get along... I take pride in this... For those who wish to scold me about my hobby and keeping ehtics... then I simply contest to them that I keep fish, I do not flush fish...

And until you have to be flushing dead fish... you're doing absolutely nothing wrong.

Some people do not know that a male betta can be a part of a community tank. They stick with the fact that they are fighters and do not know that they can get along with peaceful fish with short fins.
If it works for you and if you're fish are happy, don't care about it.

Bettas are extremely territorial. Their natural habitat is very small so they are understandably aggressive about keeping competitors out of their space. I was once told by a pet store worker that I could have a female betta with my male and he killed her.

I'm not sure, but maybe your tank is big enough that your betta has his own space and they've achieved some sort of natural balance.

generally is gouramis and bettas don't work well together. both are brightly colored and aggressive. tetra can be fin nippers, so they can sometimes be a bad match for betta because of the long fins. however, if your fish are fine together then don't worry about it.

some people refer to neons as fin eaters and normally when you put a fish like a betta in the the tank with they will pick at his fins and then usually that cause that fish (the betta) to get ick which will eventually kill him.

bettas are known to be aggressive so they are often alone. but if it works in your tank- lucky you!!
