Go to the county clerk's office and apply for a license. They will tell you what you need to do to make it legal and where you can get married. After marriage ceremony is complete officiant fills out the license and either gives it to you to return to the county clerk's office to file and make legal, or he returns it himself.

They should also have a pamphlet telling you about name change on driver's license, SS card, etc.

Any question, call the clerk's office; and good luck

Some states require blood tests, marriage classes, waiting periods. You buy a license- think of it as a dog collar.
THEN you call the court house and make an appointment to get the ceremony. Sometimes, it is only on Friday mornings or something.. Pay the judge.
Then, you leave the building. You can change your name if you want to, but I don't t recommend it. HE can change his name, too, but again.
Then you go through the process of changing all your checks, credit cards, etc to include both people.
Be prepared to share all your stuff, and your bills, and his. Keep money in yoru own name, no matter what.
Good luck

Once you sign the register during the ceremony, that's you officially married. The bit you sign should be handed to the registrar within so many days of the wedding ( that's how it works in Scotland anyway I don't imagine it's very different anywhere else) If you're getting married in the courthouse, they'll probably just keep it there, but if you were getting married int he church you'd have to hand it in. After that it's up to you! pick somewhere nice, have a meal and a party and enjoy the night!

You get his last name. Everything you own is half his if you ever get a divorce. Religiously speaking you can now have sex without commiting a sin. You buy a house together and if one leaves the other, you still owe for the house if one or othe other loses it. Your stuck with that person for the rest of your life and your not suppose to date outside of the marriage. After you leave the court house and get your marriage certificate most people have a family get together in a banquet hall or something with food and drinks to celebrate. Or you can just go on a cruise or romantic trip together. Most people do both and leave for the trip right after the family get together. And then you come home and start the rest of your life as husband and wife to the day you die.

Your marriage license will be recorded in the public records, you must make your name changes (if you choose to do so) with the IRS, the Social Security Administration, the Driver's License people, blah, blah, blah. Maybe change a bill or a bank account here and there, and then that is it.

You have to get a license first-some states require blood test or waiting periods, so you might want to check the specifics for your area. Then you get married at the courthouse or wherever you choose, and that's it, legally speaking.
