Its funny you can never please everyone - think about it alot of us end up on that street at least once a week - yes it does get boring yes you see the same people - but its the people that your with which should determine your night out... i go out with friends and can have wicked nights other nights they can be a pile of sh***...it all depends on the mood the weather all different factors - if your gay your limited to where you feel comfortable (in a lot of cases - me personally ) yes canal street has changed, but i think age can change your perception as well, that s not me being ageist thats just the way it is..when i was younger i was
"i'll go clubbing til the day i die"
now i cant wait for my bed!!!

Kaiah, went up there with old riproar partner (who's now married to Yorkshire woman) last Christmas, and was disgusted at how it changed. Went there for first time in the early nineties and it was aural and lovely, but 2006 was something else. Saw loads of straights with women in hand gawping like it was a zoo, and it seems the gays that were there were the 'fixed' settings. Wondered if the less showy decided to keep away. Was in Manchester over Christmas and New Year, so spent most of the time around Canal Street, but after the second night, it was, as you wrote 'same old same old' feeling.
Razzle - yow the man!! Just one cliche, huh?

I think you get that where ever you spend time. I was very disappointed last year when I went there. I used to go there in the early to mid 90's and had a great time there. I went back last year very excited and was disappointed, it did not seem to have the same atmosphere. Maybe I was looking back through rose tinted glasses.

That scene changes . You have probably matured along with your tastes. things like the music and clothes and the behaviour of the folk have probably been left behind by you. Its a bit like a sweet shop ,,,,fantastic at first but very rapidly becomes ol hat ...

We felt like that for a long while so we stopped going out there for months & then started afresh but without going out too often. The people get very samey if you go out to the same place a lot but I think absence makes the heart grow fonder!!
