Puerto rico is a commonwealth of America. The puerto rican people have voted against becoming a state but since it is considered to be part of america we do not need a passport kind of like the US virgin islands. Rico is just kidding around, trying to get a rise out of you people and you give him so much attention he will just keep going. People need to learn how to take a joke.

No. Puerto Rico is a United States unincorporated territory with Commonwealth status, so technically they aren't American citizens. People refer to them as Puerto Ricans, not Americans. Besides, I've never heard of anyone claiming that Ricky Martin is an American citizen, and Puerto Rico also enter the Miss Universe pageant as an independent nation.

Yes, they are. I dont understand it either..no green card is necessary to work in any of the 50 States and dont have to pay Federal income tax...sounds like a pretty good deal if you ask me.

Wow, I am amazed at the ignorance of some people when answering this question...apparently many wouldn't do well on "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader" ! LOL

I think Rico is musunderstood. I am puertorican and I don't hate anyone in this category or Americans. Yes, Puertoricans are born American citizens. I'm a patriot for both countries. If he's talking about race, I'm not tolerating it.

Rico thinks the world revolves around Rico. Rico is delusional. We should all try to ignore Rico, at least until he snaps back into reality!

I'm part Puerto Rican, Irish, French and German and I'm American as well as I was born and raised here. Please no more Puerto Rican questions. If you have a problem take it out on Rico. It's his fault not mines. Thanks.

No they are not but being a country that the U.S. calls one of its territories, they are able to partake of all our benefits. Year after year, they have been offered to become a state but the percentage of their population wants to remain as they are. They love their Independence. They also love the fact that they can have what we have and not be obligated to follow our laws. They want to "eat the candy" and not have to pay for it. They are content on being a parasite that feeds off of the U.S. citizen and they hate it when they are recognized for being that way. Of course, there are many "Ricans" who have honorable values who pursue life's goals on their own merit. I think the largest part of their society is honest and hard working but their "few" cries the loudest so is heard more and sways the population with propaganda.
