Very heavy, intense weight lifting isn't good for adolescents because it puts too much strain on their still-developing joints and can stunt growth.

With proper technique they should be fine. There has been some controversy over the crunches, sit-ups and such. This is in regards to curving or bending the spine "too much." I believed controlled good form sit ups are fine. There a lot of core exercises such as body weight exercises such as push ups, squats, leg lifts, etc.

That's bull, if you love it do it. The only thing that might stunt your growth is heavy impact sports like gymnastics as they change your bone development I think.
If you're healthy it'll have no effect on health. In fact you may grow better.
Don't neglect the rest of your body though.

Sit-ups are fine. Just weight lifting and such things are bad. Sit-ups helps you grow strong! :)

I think you or whoever are ok as long as you don't do too many. Its the weight lifting that is hard on kids when they are not fully developed.
