Sorry to hear your fish died. To be honest it's probably impossible to know exactly what went wrong with your tank that caused all of the fish to die like that. If you really enjoyed your fish, why not replace them with the same thing or something very similar?

I would suggest you do that 20-25% water change once a week though, even better for the fish.

Over a matter of years your fish build up a resistance to the chemicals in fresh water, but as they continue to get older their immune system also weakens and the chemicals from the fresh water can prove fatal.

I'd go with "mollies" or what I have now, African Chiclids, they're an agressive fish like Oscars and grow to 4' to 6' inches, the one I have now is over a year old.

Chances are your water temps were off.

Fish are very small delicate creatures, the bodies simply can not handle temperature changes even a few degress higher or lower can kill them.

Just be more cautious when cleaning your tank.

When you refill the water do you make sure that the refill water is around the same temp so the fish don't go into temp shock.
