I am looking to go to Melbourne next year, but want to go in a good time...where the weather is good, tickets aren't too expensive and every place isn't super crowded. Also, any recommendations of fun things to do would be a bonus!

Well, Melbourne is known for its 4 seasons in 1 day :-)))))

I recently went in October, weather was very pleasant, not too many tourists around & I got good rates in hotels (I stayed at the Vibe Savoy for $110p/n - king bed, beautiful room & excellent service).

We did the penguin parade, puffing billy & farm visit.. all fantastic. We also had chocolate pizza at Mercadente, Lygon St (sooooooo yummy & the owner is really funny & worth visiting just for his antics).

The Victoria markets are great, Crown Casino (if you like that kind of thing), Melbourne zoo...

You can find lots of things to do... search on google for the visit victoria website.

G'day,

Melbourne.... I reckon the best time to come will be Spring, which is September-October. Everything are blooming and there are flower festivals everywhere (eg Tulip festivals, Rhododendron Garden, Werribee rose garden). The weather is not too cold and not too hot, altho the wind sometimes quite strong in some days.

Ticket-wise, may not be the cheapest. I reckon Melbourne tickets are the cheapest during winter. It's usually not very crowded, unless there are some international events happening. Ooops... forgot to mention that end of September is Football Grand Final, so accommodation will be abit expensive & crowded.

There was a terrific answer given by my fellow Melbournian that you may check. I provide you with the link below. You can also check www.thatsmelbourne.com.au for more info on what's in Melbourne.

Hope this helps. Good luck and welcome to Melbourne :)

March - it's still warm and everyone is still happy in Melbourne but all the school kids are back at school and everything is back to normal after the summer holidays.
By march all tourist attraction prices are back to normal and hotels don't tend to have any surcharges. Also in March the weather is nice so you can take advantages of the lovely beaches and do a few walks or bike rides.
The below website is great for some ideas - that's don't cost the earth:

Also Moomba runs in March, and that tends to be a bit of fun (it's a carnival run on the banks of the Yarra)
No matter what time of year you visit i am sure that you will love it, but if i had to choose a month - go with March!

Summer is the peak season when the weather is fine. Warm and dry with occasional periods of very hot. Winter in Melbourne is cool to cold and wet. There is little variation in ticket prices over the year as Melbourne people will go to see shows at any time. There are tourists in Melbourne but they don't dominate things. Outdoors events occur in summer to take advantage of the weather but if you want to go skiing, August is the best month.
