Well I know this has to do with breastfeeding but it should be similar to pregnancy regarding the absorption:
"The active ingredient in self-tanning products is dihydroxyacetone (DHA). It is derived from sugar cane. This reacts with the amino acids in the upper layers of the skin to produce a tan. No dyes are used, and this is considered to be a safe process.
In general, there is some absorption from any product used on the skin. Only use if your skin is not damaged. There is no evidence that use of skin care products has any negative effect on your nursing baby. When applying to the breast, avoid using around your areola and nipple. Allow to dry thoroughly (about one hour) before breastfeeding.
Remember that your skin will still need to be protected from the sun. Be sure to use sunscreen when you'll be spending time outdoors. Best wishes!"

HOWEVER the best source of information for safety during pregnancy and lactation is only a phone call away. And if you dial a 10-10 long distance plan it will cost you less than $2. So even if you decide that a sugar cane derivitave is safe keep this number on file, you never know when you may need it!

Why is your skin coloring more important than your baby's health? I'm sorry but I just don't get why people think it is more important to dye their hair and have tan skin than it is to have a healthy baby. The truth is there have not been enough studies done on the long term effects of EITHER. Why not just wait until after you have the baby?

My doc told me that the Jergens Natural Glow self-tanning body lotion is completely safe. And it works really well. I dont feel like I look orange like some spray tanning does.

I would hold off from tanning beds, they already are bad for your insides, so while pregnant I would for sure stay away. I dont know if this is correct but my guess!

I would just start using self taning lotions, but you have to make sure they are OK for pregnant women. I use Bath and Body works True Blue moisturizing self taning lotion with SPF.
