The only worthwhile Superman story is one where he gets beaten down. ...Although there's a limit to how much of a beating I'm comfortable with him taking before some sort of primordial guilt creeps into my consciousness and I feel badly that this icon is being destroyed. Kind of like when the Taliban destroyed all those statues of the Buddha.

For me Superman stories are only interesting when he's not the complete center of the story, when other characters are involved too. These stories make Supes more vulnerable because of his "humanity" and his ability to make mistakes. A lot of the stories from the TV show JLU are like that-- like the one where Luthor manipulates Superman to fight with Capn Marvel or the one with the Justice Lords. Another interesting way to treat Supes is to have a much less powerful, more human character-- usually Batman-- beat the hell out of him when he comes down on the wrong side of some issue, and then show the process of how Superman is converted to the right side. The second approach has been done very well repeatedly, so I'm less interested in using that, but the first offers a lot of possibilities, and I'd be interested in working on such a project.

Absolutely I would! Superman is a prestige character, and I would love to have written a Superman story and have it on my resume! Aside from that, the very fact that it would be a challenge to write is something that appeals to me. Don’t think small. There are many personal crises and moral challenges that Superman has yet to face. The most interesting stories are not the ones when he is temporarily powerless, but the ones when he is forced to say, “Even with all my powers, I’m stuck in this situation!” I love the stories that show his humanity, the fact that, even though he could use brute force and take over the world, he is patient and good and kind to everybody around him. Those characteristics, even more than the powers, is truly what makes him Superman.

Sign me up. I have plenty of ideas for him. remember the whole Superman Red/Blue thing. I can take that and do something else (ideas to writers come in weird places). Just give me a week and a bar to sit in and I'll have a story for you that will win me a prize.

yes but not with all his god like powers because that would make it boring for the viewers (the story should start around his teenage years)
