This is a bit complicated. Let me explain. My specific interest is in Hydrology, for which it's strongly recommended I go to grad school. I study mostly in the evening for my bachelors (I work full time). The geology department offers few evening classes; the math and physics departments offer more evening classes.
My dilemma: I was thinking of majoring in Physics or possibly Math and minor in Geology (I would finish sooner) or should I just take my time and get my B.S. in Geology?

Set up a time to talk with a graduate school counselor. He will be able to tell you what courses would be best to prepare you for your graduate studies. Keep in mind you could get a degree in Theater and still study Hydrology as long as you take the required courses to get into the program. Also you may be able to get in with a B.A. in Geology if your college offers it that way. I know most do. Less course work so faster degree.

I don't know where you go to school, but here are some ideas

1) Most jobs in the geological sciences will almost require a Master's degree. Tnis includes Hydrology/Environmental Geology

2) What good is a Math or Physics degree? Teaching?

3) Why not combine everything and major in Geophysics? A bachelor's degree will get you hired at most large oil companies at salaries starting ~$75k/yr.

If I got you right, your question is whether major in phy/math + minor in Geology is as good as major in Geology, if you want to become a Hydrologist in future.
Well, first I would like to make it clear that there is some difference between Hydrology and Geohydrology/ Hydrogeology. If you select the former (Hydrology) as your career, the best combination for you would be Maths major and geology minor. But if it is the latter you elect as your future career, the major Geology is essential.

If you really want to work in geology and hydrology it would make more sense to keep that as your major.

the answer above me is not completely correct about geophysicists. a bachelor degree in geophysics will get you a job with an oil services company doing seismic data processing (~$50k/year). the majority of oil companies require a masters degree to be hired. however, if you have a bachelors degree with a high gpa, then some oil companies may take a chance on you.

If you have a very strong desire and passion not only to get graduated but also make a carrer in Geo science Iam sure YOU SHOULD NECESSARILY take a major in Geology.Even other hard subjects could be taken in the evenings.
