Neither. A person can be intelligent without having street-smarts, and equally a street-smart person does not have to be intelligent.
Street-smarts is more than just survival instinct. It's feeling a vibe and knowing when to be extra-careful. It can be learnt, whereas you are born with a survival instinct.

''Street-smartness'' is something derived out of ''Book-smartness''. Only street-smarters of yesterday are known as book-smarts of today. Yes you are right, the instinctive to the survival mechanism, blended with creativity, uniqueness, approach to real life situations is what street smartness is about.

Name me one person, in this whole world, without any education or royal/political/wealthy background, who are really smart in business ? Iam sure that is rare. I believe in street-smartness, and thats from where genuises are born, knowing reality, experiencing them, mistakes after mistakes, loss over loss, and yet getting glorious to the end. Thats what make them winners...

There are different categories of "intelligence", and "street-smartness" falls under the "survival" category. Other categories of intelligence may include; "economic", "mechanical", and "medicinal", to name a few, each with equal levels of value to society.

You can't be street smart without being intelligent. But you can be intellegent without being street smart. i think street smart comes from intellegence, and being perceptive. Which is a form of survival mechanism

Well, for sure it's "survival," but "street-smart" or "common sense" is just the experiential part of intelligence.

We start learning information from books as children, but it takes a few years before we've accumulated enough experiential input to develop things like intuition.

Street smart is knowledge of your surroundings(survival mechanism.) Intelligence is knowledge of what makes your surrounding(self realization mechanism.)
