My baby is 6 1/2 months old and my cousin claims that it is fine for him to have a sucker or other sugar free candy if I hold it for him. I think that he is still way to young for that. She gave her son suckers for Halloween when he was 6 months old.

The candies that you mentioned are very easy to choke on. I would not give him any of that atleast until age two. At age one it is okay to give birthday cake, and muffins. I would hold off on the candy until age two.

The longer you can wait the better. It is very inappropriate to give a child that young any candy. Aside from the obvious choking hazard, it can damage teeth (even if they're not in yet). It's just not a good idea. In general you should minimize sweets.

My daughter turned 2yrs last June. At halloween she saw her daddy give out little chocolate bars, and she wanted try one. She had a small kit kat. She like them but she doesn't get sweets everyday. Sometimes she is luck if she get some once a week.

Hold off on those sweets and cakes as long as you can! It will benefit them in the long run. I mine didn't even get a bite of cake until their first birthday....

WHEN MY SON WAS BORN AT THE HOSPITAL I WAS EATING A CANDY BAR AND I GAVE HIM SOME TO SEE HIS EXPRESSION WHAT I THOUGHT HAPPENED DID HE WANTED MORE LOL THERE ARE NO BIG DANGERS IN GIVING KIDS CANDY THE ONLY CONCERN U SHOULD HAVE IS THAT U MIGHT BE STARTING A PROBLEM FOR UR SELF IF U DO GIVE CANDY OR ANYTHING SUGARY FOR THAT MATTER TO UR CHILD. U WILL INTRODUCE THEM TO A NEW SENSE OF TASTE AND OF COURSE SUGAR TASTES BETTER THEN VEGGIES SO THEY WILL WANT MORE OF THE GOOD STUFF N U MIGHT HAVE A PROBLEM IN THE FUTURE TRYING TO GET THEM INTO HEALTHY EATING. IF U ARE CONCERNED ABOUT THAT THEN I WOULD STAY A WAY FROM CANDY, POP ESPECIALLY UNTIL THEY ARE OLD ENOUGH TO UNDERSTAND THEY HAVE TO BALANCE THERE FOOD GROUPS.
