I have a 1995 Chevy S10 4.3L truck, I have noticed occasionally that sometimes it doesn't want to accelerate, even if you put the pedal to the floor. Then sometimes if I pump the pedal once it will slowly accelerate and make a popping noise. At other times it will randomly surge as though I pressed the accelerator. The fuel economy isn't what it was, around 16 mpg vs the 20 it used to get. It has been worked on by myself and a shop, I changed the plugs, wires, rotor, coil, air filter, PVC valve is good, and they cleaned the EGR valve, replaced the screen, replaced the fuel filter, changed a couple vaccuum hoses, it still does this sometimes, any ideas?

In short. You need a new fuel pump. (the one in the tank) $250 just for the pump.

I know this because I own a 1991 Chev. truck.
Pretty soon, all it will do is idle.
Then, it will start and die.

Been there, done that.

ADDED:
Before you start tearing into the engine, do a fuel pressure test. It's a lot easier and cheaper that timing chain and gears.
You will need at least 8psi to run good. 12 psi is optimal.

If after doing the fuel pressure test and negating that as your problem, then tear into the engine.
Unless of course you enjoy wasting time and money.

i own a repair shop, and you need to check the timing chain and gears in it,when these get a lot of wear on them it throws the valve timing out ,and they wont run right,i own one also, but mine is a 95 4 wheel drive model, and at 90 thousand it needed a new timing chain and gears it started doing the same thing yours is doing,id say that's whats wrong with yours also, the factory gears, and chain are too soft, and wear out really fast, the replacements are much better, and will last a long time,i bet i have done 5 of those things already this year for the same thing, have it checked ,good luck i hope this helps.

Check for proper voltage at the throttle position sensor(1to 5 volts). If more you could have a diode burned out in the computer. It is possible theTPS is defective or you still have vacuum leaks.A defective or non operational EGR do to a vacuum leak will cause poor gas mileage.

Could be fuel pressure related, either your fuel pump or fuel pressure regulator.
