We have a lot of things that can be traced back to the roaring 20's. Freedom for women to smoke, to work, to attend colleges, to go to bars, to date openly and to dress in clothes that were not meant to cover them up like they should be ashamed fo their figures. Business boomed right up to the stock market crash. Government learned that they would have to exercise control over the free market to keep it accessible to small manufacturers and to police the stock market so that it would not crash again. Businesses found that to make big money they had to appeal to the middle class and produce applicances, clothing and cars that the mass would purchase. Labor laws started and the Union movement started its struggle to establish work place rules and fairness. Education became more accessible to more people, not just the wealthy. Then of course the crash came and everything was put on hold until prosperity returned years later. FDR's social policies were based on the experiences of the Depression years and the start of social welfare and food programs is a result of what happened in the 20's. Great question. Hope I have helped. Love to watch movies on TNT channel from that era.
