Malaysia faces risks similar to those in 1997, official warns. Do you think so?

Yes they can although the government in Asia have been taking care of their spending. What happen in 1997 was the over spending of the governments & the risk of bad loans. When people found out how much was owed to the international banks, they got concern with bad loans etc.

Today, there is a trade surplus for many nations like Thailand & Malaysia. Singapore has had a trade surplus and have been storing up on US dollars for the last 20 years.

The problem these nations face is competiton to attract foreign investors because a lot of the global money are going to China, India, Eastern Europe.

Unlikely, Asia economic growth will remain strong for another decade. the will be another financial crisis in future but not in malaysia not in 3 years to come.
