I know, they would be hating on him but if their team had a chance to get him they would jump at the chance, but they won't cause he's going to be a Yankee for life.

Because the media force feeds Jeter down our throats! He entered the league while the Yanks were on a great run and he was immediately anointed as the chosen one. Let's look at the truth. Jeter has always played for a team that consists of monster offensive players. Think this doesn't boost little Derek's stats? Jeter has 3 Gold Gloves. Now compare his defensive statistics to other shortstops of the day. Surprised? Yes, it is as it appears, Jeter was handed the Gold Gloves over more deserving players. Any other Yankee could hit .600 for a Series, but if Jeter hit one HR or made one above average defensive play the broadcasters pile on the hype - Jeter is clutch, that was pivotal to the whole series, Jeter rises to the occasion again...New York is not Paradise, Jeter is not God, and if the media would quit promoting such nonsense, maybe Jeter wouldn't be hated by so many.

Of course anyone would want any great player on their team. (...with the exception of Barry Bonds) The reason that people tend to have a bias against the Yankees is obvious by sorting through the questions on Yahoo Answers. I saw a question about Robinson Cano being the best second baseman ever. Then there is this question about Jeter. It gets very, very old to hear Yankee fans talk about each Yankee player as if they are a God.

I think the Yankee personna is either hated or loved, depending on whether you're a yankee fan or not. I'm not, but I still like him and respect him. He is a skilled ballplayer and performs well in the clutch. As a side note, I saw a biography on him and it was very interesting. He has always strived to do the best he could at whatever he did- school, activities, and so forth. One part of the bio had video of him at 10 or 11 years old. He looked into the lens and said, "When I grow up, I want to play shortstop for the New York Yankees". I was very impressed with that.

He is very popular with the ladies for an obvious reason. For the dudes that like him so much its probably a little man crush. His baseball skills like previously stated have just been force fed down everyones throats. Look at the numbers he isn't too far ahead of other in the big leaguers. I can see how any Yankees fan could be proud of him as well as you should be but you also cant knock on people who aren't Yankees fans for not giving him all the hype that you do. You are right Jeter is good but that doesn't mean we have to like him.

Jeter is a very good player, but he is one of the most overrated players too. The New York media has put him on a pedestal that lifts him above his actual ability. He gets more pub than Albert Pujols (the best hitter) and Johan Santana (the best pitcher) combined. If he didn't play for the Yankees, his place in the game would be much different. Still, I wouldn't complain if he were on my team.

Does every Yankee have to be liked. Jeter is a great player and probably a good guy, but don't be so bent out of shape because some fans speak ill of a mighty Yankee.

Easy: Number one, he's a Yankee. Number two, he's probably the most recognizable face of the Yankees. And let's face it, the Yankees are the most polarizing team in baseball and one of the most polarizing teams in sports: either you love 'em or you hate 'em. That's how people hate Jeter. You hate the Yankees, you hate Jeter. Plain and simple.

I have no idea. The fact that he consistently plays at very high levels in the high pressure environment of Yankee stadium should be considered a positive. We don't know if Pujols or Santana were Yankee's if they would continue to perform at their current levels. We do know that despite generating great regular season offensive numbers A-Rod couldn't handle the play -off pressure .
Ellie , just because you're a Red Sox fan doesn't mean you can't applaud greatness when you see it regardless of uniform.
Do you know that in Carl Yazstremski's last game in Yankee Stadium, Yankee fans gave him a sustained standing ovation ?
They were applauding greatness.

I think it's because he is classless. If you remember in the ALCS in '96 he claimed that ball that kid caught was a home run. Also he is so extremely overrated I think that is why people dislike him. He is a good player, not a great one. I think his leadership skills have been way overblown. In the 6 season where it has been his team, they have spent over a billion dollars, won 2 ALCS and was at the helm of the greatest collapse in sports history

Simple answer: He's a Yankee.
Sure, anybody would love to have him on their team. But he isn't on anybody's team. He's on the Yankees. So people hate him. Because they hate the Yankees. Not too hard to fathom, is it?
