Try Initial D, DragonDrive, Rurouni Kenshin, Berserker, Yu-Gi-Oh, Bleach, Hikaru no Go, Gintama, King of Bandits: Jing, Inuyasha, Buso Renkin, Yu Yu Hakusho, Shaman King, Dragon Ball, or Trinity Blood. You could also just go to www.animenewsnetwork.com in the manga section.

The best manga for men, in my opinion at least for both artwork, as well as intelligence and depth of storytelling :

1-Vagabond by Takehiko Inoue
2- Blade of the Immortal by Hirokai Samura
3- Kabuki by David Mack (this isn't a true manga, but even as an American book....it smashes 99% of the manga out there).

These are books truly for men, they're based on realism over fantasy. No Naruto or Inuyasha garbage here. Vagabond is based on the book "Mushashi" by Eiji Yoshikawa which chronicles the life of Musashi Miyamoto (a Japanese 'sword saint') for example. History, not fantasy...and while it is fictionalized, at least it has root in truth.

Kabuki is released through Image Comics, and it's depth of story ranges through multiple topics....discussions on mathematics and quantum physics to espionage tactics and martial arts....as well as modern Japanese cultural ties.

Blade of the Immortal, is for adults only. No XXX garbage, but the depth of story and how it intertwines would be impossible for a child to understand. Plus, it's quite graphic in it's portrayal of combat scenarios.

Try anything Seinen, which is for 18-30ish. Then just go by preference, like if he likes mecha or magic or just regular stories. Go to a good anime/manga shop and they'll tell you which ones are best as well.

Another good thing to think about, is raiding his collection, seeing what volumes he's up to on things, and get him the next one is possible. Or get him a gift certificate for his favourite manga/anime store.

Hope this helps.
