I know this is a weird question, but I can smell electricity. Its hard to explain. But people look at me like I am on drugs when I say it. Does anyone else know what I am talking about?

I know exactly what you're talking about. My field of work involves the use of a LOT of electricity and, eventhough it's almost impossible to describe the smell, (it's very distintive) you can definitely smell it.

I think you are trying to say that you can sense electricity. Most healthy people can by feeling their hairs move on their head or arms. This occurs when you are close to electricity that isn't grounded or a wire that is unprotected. Electricity is a magnetic force and has effects on the human body as well as other conductive objects. If you were close to a lightening strike, you would not only here the clash of thunder, but feel heat and movement of your clothing and hair.

Motors generate ozone and you can smell it. Overly taxed wiring can have a burnt plastic smell if the wires heat up at all. (In that case, you should probably worry about fire.) Electronics are made up of various substances that can heat up and produce an odor.
Although you can't actually smell the electricity, you can smell the effect of electricty sometimes.

I don't think so. If you think you have smelled it it may be that the electricity gives off heat which make something else have a smell

I smell an odor outdoors sometimes.... do you mean outdoors?

I believe what I smell is called Ozone-- and many times it's before a rain.... it's a nice smell,--don't really remember now what it smells like, just sorta 'heavy' but clean & maybe fresh or like springtime or something....

Don't know if that's what you mean but, other than that, I can't smell electricity.... maybe it's a "6th sense" kind of thing like what mediums & clairvoyants have.?

Anyhow, what does it smell like?

Sometimes an electrical arc or short will give off a slightly acrid smell, but that's as close as I've come.

you smell the varnish on the wires of electricity if you have a super duper sniffer. I smell it but not usually till the wires get a little hotter from use like in machines.
