I love to communicate so here are the things I do:
1. Don't ask a question if you're not REALLY interested in what the answer is. It shows in your body language.
2. Look a person in the eyes when they are speaking. They will know that they have your attention are that you're interested. Don't get distracted from the conversation.
3. Remember things from past conversations which you can ask the person about. People like it when you have tucked away and bring up things that are important and dear to them. (Example: "How did your son do on that Math exam that he was so worried about?"
4. Let sympathy, happiness, empathy, excitement, sadness, concern, etc .... show on your face and in your body language.
5. LISTEN carefully to the person's feelings ... not JUST the words they are saying. Also know when to reach out and make physical contact with someone who needs it.
Oh yes ... and when you're talking on the phone ... put a smile on your face ... it really does come through in your voice!
I really could go on and on .... but these are the basics for me. I wish you hours of wonderful conversations ....

Tips to consider:
1. It's not all verbal, remember your body language says a lot too.
2. Eye contact shows you are interested in the conversation, just avoid excessive staring.
3. Affirmative head nods, uhuhs, and hmms show the person that you agree with what they are talking about.
4. Honesty is the best policy when talking, you look stupid when you try to talk about something you are unfamiliar with. It will show in your voice, and your outward expressions.
5. If someone asks you something always have a response, the most annoying thing that can end a conversation is the phrase, " I dunno"
Hope these are of some help

1) Clarity - Be clear what u want to speak and once done, studies show that people waste their time what to communicate, be clear and plan what is to be spoken
2) Fluency - Fluency is a very important factor and fluency does not mean speed, it has to coupled with a good body language
3) Jargon - The best language is made up of simple uncomposing words, Avoid Jargon, for example words like information superhighway, core competency can not be understood by many people.
4) Never Assume - Assumption is the mother of all screw ups, never assume that the person has got the message or even worse..never assume that the person will think in any other direction there should be clear minded approach
5) Listening - No one likes to listen, its generally that people like to talk but never listen, here i say listening is a very important factor in the communication process because unless you listen you cannot communicate properly

I have always found that the best topic of conversation is the other person. So when you meet someone ask about the other person; I mean, show genuine interest in him/her. Resist the temptation to start mouthing off about yourself.
I can recommend a very good book;:How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie
