I think both of these things are tied together....
...knowing and accepting our limitations has to come first before they can be surpassed...and this knowing and acceptance builds the groundwork for surpassing them....and if these limitations are beyond our capability to surpass, then at least there is self-acceptance and an understanding of what is possible.
In a sense, I say do both things.

For me, a limitation is a barrier that stops me from doing what I want to do & can do but unable to, due to lack of resources & more importantly due to lack of will power.
I definitely always accept my limitations but I do not surrender to them. No, never, no issues with defeat but effort has to be made in the first place to jump the hurdles . How can I win over my limitations if I'll just keep ignoring them & do not accept that yes they are right there infront of me & I have to face them. Closing my eyes won't make them invisible.
Accept your limitations but always fight back. Atleast try. Never surrender. Yes, surpass them.
Edit: here by acceptance I mean to acknowledge the limitations. One has to diagnose/identify the problem before taking measures to solve it.

Yes it is always better to accept these and not only accepting but also to learn from these limitations. Surpassing those would lead you to great losses.

If you're trying to surpass them, that means you already know what they are.
Accepting them is a choice... If you choose to accept them, you're limited always and can not surpass them.

You have to try in order to find out what your limitations are. If you think that you have the ability to do better than try again, get lessons, learn more about what you want to accomplish. If theres no possible way you can accomplish something whether it's a physical or mental feet, then you have identified your limitation. Once you learn what you CAN'T do then you can focus on all of the things you CAN do without waisting any more precious time on what you can't. You won't be depressed on what you can't do when you focus all of your time and energy on what you can do.
Where theres a will theres a way.
If at first you don't succeed try, try again.
All are wise words but the wisest came from CHRISTOPHER REEVE who played SUPERMAN
"It's about ABILITY not disability."
We DO have limits. If you CAN'T sing then, you CAN'T sing. So, don't go making a fool of yourself on American Idol.

knowing is good, won't ever be able to accept them because that would somehow affect progress. it would mean that a part of mind has accepted the limitations and won't try really hard to cross them. so yea, keep trying to surpass them.

Even God has limitations. Does that stop our belief in him.
Just a passing thought - See our own limitations - Why God his referred to as 'him'?
Accept what you cannot control . Try to surpass them at least

There is a famous saying: "Accept your limitations then go beyond them".
This is something I have been trying to keep in my mind all the time for the past 12+ years. I don't remember who said it though.

Knowing is good. Accepting is something that should be the last resort after fighting and conquering at least some of the known limitations.
