I keep hearing about the amazing opportunity to invest in Dubai and to do it totally tax free and I am wondering if anyone has any experience putting a portion of their portfolio in Dubai investments or if anyone has purchased investment real estate in Dubai?

I am finding it hard to find good quality research to justify the risk and because I know little about Dubai to begin with I am hesitant to invest...however, I am able to invest as little as $100k and buy an excellent property and from what is being advertised and reported, the appreciation in Dubai is HUGE and is expected to continue that way for years.

In addition, how risky is this country? Obviously that part of the world is somewhat mixed these days...should this be a concern?

All help is appreciated.

Dubai is one of the most stable places in that unstable region (Halliburton just decided to move its headquarters there), and real estate is pretty valuable there. I checked into it briefly and decided agianst it, mostly for the reason you gave--it is too hard to get good information from the internet. On the one hand, if they are creating new land, beachfront land must be really valuable, on the other hand, if it is already that valuable, is it at it's limit or will it still go up? It seemed too easy to buy something in the wrong area.

Then again, if you are serious, it is a huge vacation spot--maybe take a trip there and scout properties in between trips to the beach.

The best time to invest in Dubai (or any other oil-producing locale, for that matter) is when oil prices are low. Right now, thery are high, so investing in Dubai may not be a great idea...

Well. Dubai is always a great destination for doing business, be it anything under the sun. The reason being, you will get to meet global business leaders working at global level. Oil export is the best.
