I am interested to buy a house, but the siding looks very distressed. Would it cost alot to fix the siding or do I need to replace the whole siding.

There are different Types of siding .Some of the old stuff that looks like it should be on a roof has asbestos in it .It would be best just to recover it .

Vinyl siding is the way to go you can cover any old siding with it light weight and air tight come in many colors . You can do it yourself easy to apply and you can put a thin sheet of foam insulation under it . Most of the cost is the instillation of it you would save allot of money doing it yourself

Depending on how bad the shape of the siding . Sometimes only one side of the house is in bad shape, usually the south side in the Northern hemisphere. If that's the case just replace the one side. If only a few shingles are bad hire someone to just replace those, or do it yourself. At first they may stand out but over a few years they will match.

If thay are old,and thay most likely are, because thay havent done shingle siding for some time now. Go with the new
aluminum siding , cost is not that bad and maintenance free.

no, its not shingles. i had them as quickly as and that they harm plenty that even the load of my blouse on the scabs while i might lay down became painful. shingles many times are on your facets and bypass diagonally, following the nerves. this is like rooster pox different than interior the physique. additionally, as quickly as I had them, they did not look as though fluid filled sacs, they have been like scabs, darkish purple scabs.
