I would like to know which side off the garden is my fence - left or right, looking out through the back door?

There is no hard and fast rule but the following may help.
1 if your house is much older all the fences may be yours.
2 if one of the fences is holding back soil on your property it will be yours (ie the down hill boundary).
3 if you can see a print of the original deeds a T on these will denote who owns what.
Hope this helps.

You need to check the deeds to the house, normally if there is an existing fence up on both sides the side that has the posts in your garden is next doors.

It depends who put the fence up - and if it's not on your property (as defined by the deeds) then it's not yours.

It doesn't stop you putting up your own fencing.

**NOTE - If the fence post are facing your garden, then the fence is yours, otherwisw, it belongs to your neighbour.

If the posts are on your side of the fence, then it is your fence. If the posts are on the neighbors side then it is their fence.

Depending on where you live and how old the property is, there may be sinkers out by the curb which designates property lines, if not your public assessor should have the property description or at least be able to tell who does.

In our garden neither fence is ours! they both belong to neighbours. Maybe have a word with your neighbours see if they know.

Usually it's the side the posts are on... If in doubt look at your deeds.
