My mother was amazing with African violets, and she swore by a southern exposure window and regular fertilizer treatments, using a fertilizer specifically for african violets. She had plants the size of dinner plates and they were loaded with blooms.

1. "Tight shoes promotes bloom " a big key is to NOT pot up unless you really have to. If the pot is too big the plant will use all of it's energy filling the pot with roots before it will bloom.
2. using the right fertilizer is also VERY important. You want to use one with a high middle number ie: 10.30.15 the middle number stimulates blooms.
3. be sure to carefully, take off any litle side shoots / plantlets that sprout from the base of the plant as this is another way the plant reproduces other htan seeds from blooming. If it has little plantlets, energy will go into making them grow and get bigger an not into blooming.
4. do not over water, do not place in direct sunlight - in nature they grow under the jungle canopy, and do not get water in the crown or on the levaes as fuzzy leaves tend to grow mold when they are wet.
Have fun and enjoy.

THey like a lot of natural light, but not direct sunlight. They dont like to be over watered, as they can get root rot. Other than that they should be really easy. I have always had nice ones, they seem low maintenance to me. Hope all goes well for you.
