overprotective towards their animals.
Is it because unlike children they always do what their owners tell them or is it just a power thing over animals.

Just watch the animal actavists come on board now !

I have pets and I am protective towards them simply because they rely solely on me to look after them and they ask for nothing in return apart from a bit of love and affection. People are protective because they love them as simple as that.

I'm protective, but not overprotective. If you own an animal you have a duty of care.
By the way, not all animals do what their owners tell them to do! You only have to read some of the questions on here, from people appealing for help in training their dogs to know that!

Im not an animal activist, but I am really protective of my dog. Its nothing to do with the fact he does what hes told or that I feel any power over him. Its because I love him and hes a part of my family. I would defend him the same way I would defend a child of mine or my partner. Plus, if anyone hit him or anything like that, its not as if he can retaliate. If he bit someone who hit him he would be down as a dangerous dog and have to get put down

As a dog owner, I think for me it is down to the fact that I see my dog as a bit soppy and defenceless, and a little dumb, as well. So I tend to look out for him more.

But now that I think of it, I do the same for my little boy who is the same age (3 yrs) and who obviously needs protecting, too.

There is no power trip, as, like my son, my dog has a mind of his own. They both behave well outdoors and run amok indoors.

I have met some folk who do go way overboard with their pets, and some who do the same with their kids, but each to their own, I guess. Just so long as they don't impinge on other people's lives, I let sleeping dogs and children lie.

i can answer this from first hand experience.

i have a pup named buttercup. shes a french mastive, pitt and chow mix. shes the happiest dog and always wants to play, and im telling the truth when i say that i love that dog. and i know if something happened to her i would be upset.

its sort of the same thing as when you have a child. you take care of it , invest money into it, play and feed the animal (whatever pet people may have. it doesnt HAVE to be a dog....) and you want to see your invetment which understands you and comes when you call to live and live well. i know i wouldnt spend money on the vet and such if i knew it was just going to die.

extended.......

We are overprotective of them because we are responsible for them. And like children, they depend on us for everything and in return they love us unconditionally.

Well it could be because humans can cry out loud if they are sad or happy but animals can't and they are so cute.
