To get dingy clothing whiter than white, try this never fail trick: For cotton, pour one gallon of hot water into a plastic wastebasket or enamel or stainless steel containers are acceptable but NOT aluminum) and add 1/2 cup of automatic dish washing compound and 1/4Th cup of bleach stirring well. Let clothes soak for thirty minutes, then wash as usual. Use one half cup of white vinegar in the rinse water. The garments come out snowy white every time. Do not stir while the clothes are soaking. and do not use this mixture again, make a new batch. Hope this brightens your day.

Try adding some oxy Clean to the water when you wash it. If it;s just a white t-shirt, you should just throw it away and buy some new ones or you'll spend more trying to make it white than the new ones would cost.

Try to soak it overnight in hot water and non-chlorine bleach. Regular bleach has a tendency to turn fabrics yellow or greyish over time.

You probably have hard water or minerals (calcium, iron, etc) in your water. Bleach only makes it worse! You need to fix the water problem.
