I know there have been stories of goldfish living for 10-20 years but what is the average maximum age a goldfish can live for. It is just that I have two goldfish which I have had for about 6 years now, and it looks like there is no sign of them dying yet.

if kept healthy and in a spacious environment (NOT A BOWL!), 20-30 years
the oldest on record was 43 years.
yours is still a baby!

goldfish need large spacious filtered oxygenated tanks, or commons (long-bodied) need filtered oxygenated ponds. 20 gallons minimum for one goldfish.

the bowls should be banned.

In optimal conditions, goldfish may live more than 20 years (the world record is 49 years), but most household goldfish generally live only six to eight years, due to their often being kept in bowls.

My parents in law are still taking care of their daughters goldfish that she won at a fair 15 years ago!

most people think that goldfish only live until 4 but thats if you take care of them poorly
Each goldfish needs 10 gallons, which seems like a lot but goldfish are solitary beings. If you put proper food in and clean about once every other week your goldfish will live a very long time. Mine all lived more than 10 years. Also check for ick everyday

Congratulations! This means you take good care of them. Goldfish are hardy, but many have bad luck with them, cos they poop alot and that adds to the ammonia in the water which is bad for fish. But regular water changes, appropriate feeding can lead to a longer life for a goldfish, or any fish for that matter. I have heard of a goldfish living for 15yrs. You may just never know. Your fish are doing really well so be proud.

One goldfish demands a minimum 20 gallon tankwith heavy filtration. Their existence span if correct cared for is 20 years or greater. an hassle-free goldfish (the 12 cent style) will upward thrust as much as twelve" long. they many times in basic terms stay a week because of the fact people save them in tiny bowls with undesirable water. **

I had one named Spot that lived for 9 years and two more, named Fido and Rover, that lived 'till they were 11 years old--all in a goldfish bowl on the end of my kitchen countertop.

I'm not quite sure. I've had gold fish that lasted for a few days, weeks, months and i even had 2 fish that lasted 3-4 years. It all depends on where you get them.

As long as you keep them healthy and happy and make sure they have plenty of space to swim theres no reason why they cant live for ten or more years
