I'm a former Paramedic, my certification expired in 1997. Does anyone know of a company, state or federal agency that will pay for me to go back to school to get updated and certified again? I am willing to sign a contract for employment and willing to relocate. I hope a single dad of two stands a chance. I would truly appreciate any knowledgeable and researched advice that could head me in the right direction, thanks in advance!

There's been quite a paramedic shortage lately. Lots of companies are now willing to pay for continuing education, work around school schedules, pay handsome bonuses, and offer better benefits.
However, it's going to be difficult to find an employer willing to send you back to school so you can work for them.
Your best bet would be to re-obtain your Basic certification, and find a job with a company that's willing to pay for medic school in exchange for the promise that you will work for them for a few years.
Most companies won't advertise this option, and sometimes it will only be made available to employees that have been with the company for awhile.
My employer will reimburse a Basic for the cost of medic school, but only if you sign a contract agreeing to work for them for a few years, and only if they like you and really think you'll make a good medic. Currently, we're not all that short on medics, though.
Your prior medic experience should help, because it proves that you can handle paramedic school, and you've already got some field experience.
In conclusion, although you might have to work as a Basic for awhile, there are employees who will pay for your medic classes.
