burn them all to dvd or cd or get an external hard drive then you can take them all off your pc once they are backed up

Depends on how much/many documents you are going to use at one time. If you only open one document (and they are small) it would likely get by... barely.

If you have the money invest in laptop with higher memory and processor. Drive space for storing documents shouldn't be that big of a concern as you can put them on a usb drive/stick.

It really depends on how you will be using the computer... more details might help answer the question better.

Not in this day and age ... also depends what OS you want to run. You could get by with that spec running something like DSL (Damn Small Linux), but not a chance for XP.

I recently switch to a Macbook, because of the system requirements of Vista. I'm extremely happe, and can still run XP w/ Parallels, since it's Intel based (XP running virtually with 512mb screams, compared to my desktop w/ 2Gb).

I'd look at at least a Core 2 Duo processor for Windows based, you can get any number of machines for under $1k, or a Macbook for around $1k-1.5k. (Go with the Macbook, you won't be sorry)

The number of doucments doesn't mean much. Right click on your c: drive and see how big it is. Also i wouldn't recommend a celeron there meant to be cheap and generall rubbish

in case your husband extremely needs a mac than i recommend getting a macbook professional. that's a workstation and is amazingly transportable with a super battery existence. i personaly offered a 27 inch imac which i regretted because of the fact i basically am no longer the form of guy or woman to take a seat down in one place. besides the shown fact that for the period of case your husband prefers desktops fairly than laptops than the imac 27" is optimal. he will extremely like it.

I would look into something a little more robust, NOT celeron if possible... and definitely more memory.
