I think it goes back to the days when there were council estates where no one looked after the place, and I do live in a housing association house, but if you look and some places you will see that some are very dirty and unkempt on the estate where i live there are some like that and it makes the place look like its full of lazy people, but it's down to the individual person, but you know how people think if there's one rotten apple then there all rotten

Yes, I agree. I rent a council house and work 50 hours a week to pay the rent. I can't AFFORD to buy a house.
People should count themselves lucky if they own their own place and not make judgements on those that don't

I don't think that!! I grew up on a very nice council estate all my childhood and both my parents worked very hard as I do now (I own my own house now, private), people who think this obviously are poorly educated and have never lived on a council estate, they aren't all bad. A spot of generalising I think.
