i think that they were happier because nowadays we are never happy with what we have. We always want bigger better stuff and more of it.

I would say very much so happier because my ancestors were slaves so all they did was pick cotton all day and did what the master said to do so they had no freedom but me myself i have a job and earn my own money and can come here when ever i want to have a nice day.

We are not happier than our ancestors because our ancestors were more religious and relied on faith in tough times. Now, people in our society resort to violence and abuse in order to deal with their issues.

I don't think we can be sure but our ancestors managed to live without anti-depressants. Nowdays it seems like every other person is on them.
