***Cons***
* Europeans brought disease with them. More importantly, they brought diseases to which the aborigines were not resistant. The death toll was catastrophic and--if you take into consideration some Amerindian groups in the "New World"--there was roughly 90 percent mortality rate in some areas.
* Europeans brought guns and ammunition. The appearance of Europeans in present-day Canada increased the demand for fur, which quickly depleted the supply in some regions. Because of this, many Amerindian groups expanded their hunting grounds, even encroaching on the territories of other groups. This led to war between Amerindian groups. Add guns and ammo into the mix and you have a recipe for high death tolls. After all, guns were more efficient in killing enemies than previous means.
* Europeans brought their culture. Specifically, they brought Christianity and patriarchy. Both of these concepts deteriorated Amerindian culture, religion, and society. In many Amerindian groups, women held important roles in society. In such groups, they farmed, traded, taught the group's religion and history, held political and social power, and--in the case of some subgroups--went to war. Europeans did not like the role (i.e. power role) women played in these groups, as it was vastly different than in European society. European men refused to trade with Amerindian women. Europeans forced Christianity (a patriarchal-based religion) on the natives, which dissolved the part women played in Amerindian history, religion, and culture. Plus, in order to be "Christian," female Amerindians had to be subordinate to their husbands (society in these groups were more egalitarian than Europeans could stomach). Amerindian culture was replaced by European culture, mostly to the detriment of female natives.
* Europeans brought their warfare. Generally, most Amerindian groups did not kill the women and children of their enemies. Any such members of an opposing group were often adopted into the tribe of the victors. This was not the case of Europeans, who had no qualms about killing women and children Amerindians. Slowly, some Amerindian groups adopted this wartime technique.
***Pros***
This is much harder to find. *Some* would say that European literacy, culture, and religion are advantages to European settlement. I am not one of them. To say that these are advantages is to argue that European society was "better" (however you define this) than Amerindian society. This is not the case. *No* society is better than another (or, rather, *every* society has faults). Amerindian culture and religion were devastated, and European culture and religion took their place. In general, literacy could be considered beneficial. However, literacy came hand-in-hand with European culture and religion, which were detrimental to Amerindian society. Because of this, literacy was not truly an advantage.
Still, there is one advantage from European settlement:
* Horses. Horses are not native to any "New World." Some groups--like the Amerindians of Central and South America--were frightened (at first) of horses, believing them to be giant dogs. Much later, Amerindians of North America--such as the Comanche and Apache--made excellent use horses, and used them while hunting and warring.
As far as I see, there was no other advantage to European settlement on the aborigines.

It's bad because of the oppression they bring when they want to take over the positions of power and property.
It's good because they bring with them knowledge from a more advanced perspective on medicine, agriculture, technology etc. which can improve the lifes of the natives.
it's a balancing act between the good and the bad.

I can think of a good thing that the Europeans brought with them - it is literacy - the ability to read and write.

The good is for the Europeans; they got everything that the natives owned, including their land.
The bad is for the natives, they lost everything that they owned, including their lives.
