I actually have a mean male cat. He sleeps with me every night so I know that he loves me but he also used to attack me a lot. I finally decided to get another cat and he immediately stopped attacking me. He wasn't crazy about the other cat at first - he didn't attack it - he just didn't want anything to do with it. After about three days they became friends and now they are always playing together. I got a male kitten. The kitten is very sweet but very playful. He is always trying to wrestle with my big cat and he doesn't give up. If for any reason he gives out a cry while they're wrestling my big cat always lets go right away. I would definitely recommend getting a kitten. Cats usually do better in pairs.

Either way the smaller of the 2 is going to get slapped around. Is your male fixed if not that might clam him down some. A small kitten that is bullied will be shy and afraid of the other cat . May not become social. The puppy might think the cat is just playing and give him a run for his money.

I'd say neither. Your cat is dominant in the house and will harshly pick on both, although a small kitten will probably fare worse than a puppy. THe puppy will probably get a good swat and then ignore your cat, unless the cat goes out of his way to bother the puppy.

Honestly, can any animal get along with you "mean" cat? Is it fair to put another animal in harm's way? If the animal doesn't attack, fine, if he is just aloof...
Generally it is best to pair male cat with female cat...but remember to spay & neuter.
Sometimes dog & cat pairs are fine, but the first animal will be territorial any new animal. Usually, time will take care of this.
Be sure the "mean" cat doesnt get less attention when you have a newcomer. It can cause the rivalry to be worse due to jealosy.

probabaly neither. It will harass the kitten and the puppy - it is a dominant cat who thinks he rules the house. My friend's male cat (nuetered as early as possible but still highly aggressive) will attack everything. He beat the crap out of adult and young rottweilers, huskies, unnuetered tomcats, etc. One dog even had to get stitches and go on antibiotics because of the damage to it's face.
Other senario- you get a highly aggressive puppy and the both duke it out- you end up with two badly hurt animals, because both would not step down.

i would think that any animal that you get is going to get beat up by your cat.....i know that if he could kill a kitten....and if he is a large cat he could possibly hurt or kill a puppy too....i wouldn't get an animal till after your cat passes on or until he gets to old to hurt other animals....if you still insist on another pet your going to have to make sure that you keep them separated at ALL times...............

Doesn't really matter. You will have to protect the baby from the cat til its big enough to hold its own. That could be some time.
