Definately should be legal. It is insane that we are waging war against a weed, eroding civil liberties, and destroying our constitution over such a problem.

Drug addiction is a medical problem, but we are too stupid to realize that, and instead treat it as a criminal problem. We thus set ourselves up for all kinds of further problems. Prohibition erodes confidence in our legal system. We have utterly mindless policies like "zero tolerance," as a result. Then, in situations where marijuana has some medical benefit, we have folks who think others should simply suffer, they way God intended.

Finally, the violence and insane profit motives created by prohibition would be eliminated. Addicts would not need to steal as much to feed their habits, and turf wars would be eliminated. We would quit shippping billions of dollars overseas into the hands of columbian and afghani drug lords. Our own CIA would no longer be able to use illegal drug profits to finance covert terrorist operations. We could also ensure the quality of drugs, tax them, and use the money where it belongs--rehabilitation--NOT incarceration.

Instead, we have laws that serve as drug price supports. Because of enforcement, drug pushers can make 100 times the profit they could demand were the drugs legal. Since there are no quality controls, users often end up overdosing when they switch suppliers. Drug enforcement agents plant drugs on people they want to throw in prison for any reason--such as the Dallas police officers who were too cheap to plant real coke--they falsely imprisoned people they didn't like with crushed sheetrock.

Yes I think it should be. For one thing, I believe less people would start smoking pot if it were legal. Here's what I mean, didn't beer taste nicer when you were 17. It did for me and I drank more. I also smoked before I was legal but I dont now.

Decriminalization of petty crime may also go some way towards resolving the over-crowding issue in our prisons today.

I would say that it's no different than booze in that both make you stupid when you use it and both damage internal organs with prolonged use.

Comparing pot to cigarettes; 2nd hand smoke from cigarettes is said to cause cancer. 2nd hand smoke from pot not only causes cancer but a second hand high; I know... at least you're feeling good while getting hurt by that second hand smoke eh?

If it doesn't hurt you it shouldn't matter what I do. If it is deregulated and made legal the crime syndicates wouldn't have a market so crime should drop.

No. I went to college in the late 60's and early 70's. I saw too many students trash their educations because they were hooked on pot. I have also seen pot smokers in rehab centers. It is indeed addictive, standing alone.
And, the habitual pot smoker may end up having children and/or grandchildren who suffer genetic defects traceable to the pot.

Follow Counterpunch.com. There are often good articles about the progress of legalization. Quick note. There is no proof of the suppossed harmful effects of marihuana. Prohibition is based on racist policy, it allows the US to deploy troops to S. America and effectively occupy Colombia. Recent studies reveal THC stops Alzheimer's. In other words: GET YOUR LAWS OFF OF MY BODY.

No it should never be legal. And for those of you that say the government banned it and they shouldnt be able to make those decisions. Think about this. Our representatives made a law against it. Guess what that means. You elected somone who made a law against it. In turn you made a law against it in your own best intrest. That is the beauty of Democracy everyone has a hand even if they say it is the governments fault.

I think it could be just like cigarettes. Why not make it legal and the government could tax the hell out of it. Make a pack of 20 pre-rolled joints and sell it for 20 or 30 bucks and it works out great for everyone. From my experience it does mess with your senses a little or it could be like a friend of mine who functions better with it. I am indifferent either way.

It should definitely be legal but the government won't allow that to happen since if they legalize marijuana it will cost way less and all those legal fees will be waved
The police have to get off their *** and catch real criminals lol
