Khamenei is making noises because Iran is in a desperate situation now that two more top generals have defected to the west. They are talking with western intelligence about Hezbollah, arms and nuclear trades.

We don't need to go into Iran. They're crumbling. The Iranian president lost credibility among his countrymen, alarming the world with his defiant nuke program, threats, and because he cannot improve their economy without lining his pockets.

If the Republican guard takes over, the leadership is gone. Apparently the Generals opted instead to leave the country.

Diplomacy IS working.

Here's an article about the first defector.

News about the other two may have been found in Debka.com, Janes.com or the Jerusalem Journal.

Well there's a reason we've got two air craft cariers just haning out around Iran.

But here's my top concern - They say if we do military action it will simply be bombing the enrichment facilities and nothing else (unless there's retaliation and escelation of course).

Okay, but as much as the president of Iran is a nut-job, he's not stupid - he's actually extremely inteligent. What kind of things do you think he's got surrounding those enrichment facilities? I'd put my money on schools, hospitals - the exact sort of thing that would make us look horribly wicked if we bombed those facilities because we'd be taking out sick, innocent children with it...the exact kind of thing that would make keeping international support difficult.

under international law Iran has the right to nuclear energy the same as any other country So far every evidence that the US has submitted to the UN has on inspection been proved unfounded Iran has never threatened America in fact Iran has never attacked another country in the whole of modern history .the only war they have had was to defend their own country in every other middle eastern conflict Iran has remained neutral .They have attempted negotiations with America with the help of Vienna the White house refused any discussion And lastly for the person who says they have no support from other countries they do .too many to mention on here but including Russia who are now making alliances with China and India as they all distrust the US motives Iran is also on good term with most s American countries .In fact as far as the rest of the world is concerned the greatest threat to world stability and peace is America who has lost all respect and credibility over its illegal invasion of Iraq and general disregard for international law

I think we try economical drain first. Iran buys most of it's fuel from Saudi Arabia. Cheney has already had talks with the Saudi's about this. You see even though Iran has oil, they have no equipment to refine it to fuel. There are only 3 countries that sell the equipment to do so. I know the US, Saudi Arabia, and I think England. If we cut the fuel, it will drive up the price of gas in Iran, thus throwing off there economy which will cause people to uproar against there government. I don't think one bomb would have to drop. Though if one did, I would support that too, but our Administration is smarter than that.

We spend 9 billion a month on Iraq alone. We also have to take care of Ahganistan and those pesky Taliban. If we take on Iran, here come China and Korea. Not a pretty picture.

Whats interesting is the Bush Approach to the entire problem of the Middle East .

It's the "Stupid factor," the S factor: Some people -- sometimes through no fault of their own -- are just not very bright.

It's not merely that some people are insufficiently intelligent to grasp the nuances of foreign policy, of constitutional law, of macroeconomics or of the variegated interplay of humans and the environment. These aren't the people I'm referring to. The people I'm referring to cannot understand the phenomenon of cause and effect. They're perplexed by issues comprising more than two sides. They don't have the wherewithal to expand the sources of their information. And above all -- far above all -- they don't think.

Bush and his people should walk away before more damage is done .
We can keep condi cause she is smart but no one listens to her .

What can they do out there in planet of apes?

No, give it more time. The people of Iran are not in support of their governments plans. Give the people the chance to stop this, they will.

If they pursue nuclear activities outside of their rights as NPT signatories, then they can be subject to IAEA regulation, and possibly military intervention. Just screaming "kill them all" doesn't justify your wanton murderlust..

Iran is just talking stupid. That is what they do. I think the people of Iran will be the ones to change their own course.
