Just wondering if the Marvel Mystery brand fuel and oil treatment actually helps your engine or gas mileage?

My dad and both of my grandfather's were mechanics. and they all loved marvel Mystery oil. I use it still today in my vehicle.

It will clean the gunk of the engine for sure and keep valves from sticking, but so will transmission fluid I have been told.

One Comment I found that I thought you might like to read:
When I was a mechanic at the airport we used it in the oil to break in rebuilt aircraft engines. It produced highly polished surfaces on all moving parts. It's good to add to the fuel at a ratio of 1 ounce to 2 1/2 gallons or 4 ounces to 10 gallons. Used as a top oil it lubricates the valves and the top rings of the pistons and keeps the ring lands from building up carbon. I use it in my oil and gas. In a 97 2.0 SPI engine I get 43 mpg in the winter and 47 mpg in the summer. At $3.85 a quart it pays for itself just in gas savings alone. Yeah,
I swear by it if you haven't noticed at this point. I use 1 qt. of mystery oil to 3 qts. of motor oil. In the winter time at startup it builds up pressure faster than just straight motor oil. I don't know what's in it so couldn't tell you. That's why they call it mystery oil. Btw it keeps injectors clean also.

These so called additives are an aftermarket concept that hasn't prov-en their claims of engine efficiency or longevity. I used to believe in Marvels product but found when I became a mechanic it's all about scheduled maintenance and changing oil often and using a good oil or perhaps synthetic oils, as far as putting marvel in the fuel verses oil, it was supposed to be designed for either. IF that gives you a hint of how lame it is. The oil in your engine will just blend it in and the gasoline will blend it in and it act like the product you already have in it. However, a little food for though. Would you dare run your engine on 5 quarts of Marvel Mystery oil? LOL if you can do that then you might have something.

The only additive for oil that I would use if from LUCAS OIL. They are hold the future in these types of products. Racers like Walker Evans use this product. They are the biggest sponsor of CORR series racing and off-road challenge. I have used their in a 472 big block Ford and was very impressed with the protection I got. Just looking at bearings alone was enough to convince me. They also make a gear lube.

I did my own little test on a carboned up small engine... valve faces and backs were gunked... combustion chamber had a bit of carbon caked in there... and the intake was carboned as well..
After a year of double the dose of mmo, intake was almost clean, valve faces clean... and combustion chamber almost clean... 2 years pretty much spotless (little brown but could see aluminum)
I have tried it in the oil as a quick flush but this was a junk engine... I wouldn't recommend it in the oil... maybe if you were running a heavy weight oil and was looking for easier cold weather starting...

Yep. It's great. Especially in engines that aren't used all the time - put it in the gas and in the oil.
