Its definately due to virus, ad ware or spy ware. Run a good anti-virus program and most important before doing anything; BACKUP your data then only do anything major on your system, otherwise results could be reverse also.

First of all move unwanted folders, files etc from the desktop, if you are using Win XP go to *System Properties*,Advanced,Performance,Settings->Select Adjust for best performance & Apply. Then go to *Display Properties*,Settings,Advanced,Monitor->Screen refresh rate:60/70 Hertz. Also for time being select none for Desktop Background. For cursor moving automaticaly uninstall the mouse driver & the device & reinstall the same.
If the problem is not resolved then, sorry you need to install the OS.

You said no viruses but did you check for spyware which is the main cause of slowly reacting programs. Download a free spyware program from KimKommando.com and try it. Also how is your RAM ? what was enough ram yesterday ain't gonna be enough today especially if video is using it too. Check your startup menu to see if you can start fewer programs .

If your computer hangs or reboots while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software. This problem can be solved by uninstalling new softwares, updating device drivers and making minor configuration changes.
